Women s Rights Today. - 1942 Words

Women’s Rights today â€Å"It is past time for women to take their rightful place, side by side with men, in the rooms where the fates of peoples, where children’s and grandchildren’s fates, are decided.† (Clinton) Hillary Clinton has been a driving force in the continuous fight for women’s rights. She leads by example, she became the first women to run for president, holding the seat for speaker of the house. Mrs. Clinton speaks out for women on freedom of choice, education, fair wages, and many more past, current, and future issues. For over 170 years women have been suppressed by men and the laws in which they created. Women have continually and successfully battled for the rights they deserve including equal opportunities in politics,†¦show more content†¦Thus meaning only four woman have ever been a justice, currently occupying the all-time high of three justices. This shows men outnumber women if in some of the most important places in the United States. Women have made significant advancements in their presence in the senate, and House of Representatives. Starting out from nothing, â€Å"Today in the 112th congress women hold 17 senate seats out of 100 and 92 out of 435 house of representative seats† (trustwomanpac.org). Women do not even make up half of the Senate or the House of Representatives. Furthermore men continue out numbering women in the government. The President is a member of the executive branch, and has traditionally been a man, history could be made with the election of a woman to not only the vice presidency, but the presidency itself. Although we are gradually making new advancements in the executive branch with having the first black president, still â€Å"We’ve never had a woman president† (trustwomanpac.org). Meanwhile, â€Å"Woman now constitute 24% of the highest ranks in the Federal civil service, the senior executive service, and average 23% of state wide top officials and administered† (tandfonline.com). The number of women continue to grow in the United States government gradually each year along with the continued efforts for women’s rights.
